Documentary film night: "Picture a Scientist"
Tuesday, 10 March 2026, 18:00 - 19:30
Venue: HSZ/0002
The award-winning documentary Picture a Scientist (USA, 2020) follows three renowned women scientists as they navigate the academic system. Through their personal experiences, the film powerfully demonstrates that scientific excellence alone does not determine who succeeds in research and higher education. Instead, it reveals structural inequalities: sexual harassment, subtle devaluation, exclusion from professional networks, precarious employment conditions, and institutional barriers that particularly affect women and marginalized groups.
The documentary goes beyond individual stories. It connects biographical perspectives with social-science research and makes clear that these are not isolated incidents but deeply embedded structures within academia. At the same time, the film highlights solidarity, collective agency, and strategies of resistance, encouraging reflection on how to create a more equitable and discrimination-sensitive research culture.
The screening is organised by the DGP Working Group on Equal Opportunities, the Faculty of Physics Equal Opportunities Team, and the TU Dresden Complaints Office for incidents of harassment, discrimination, and violence.
jDPG Pub Crawl
Tuesday, 10 March 2026, 20:00
Meeting Point: in front of the HSZ (Bergstraße side)
On Tuesday evening, the young DPG invites to a pub crawl through Dresden. Next to the opportunity to be on a move outside and network with others, the members of the local regional group will tell about the Dresden physics, the life in the city and other facts worth knowing.
Music Meets Science - Two Extraordinary Concert Evenings
During the DPG Spring Meeting in Dresden, the Dresden Philharmonic invites you to two special musical experiences. They will take place in the Kulturpalast Dresden – one of the most modern and acoustically excellent concert halls in Europe – and offer a fascinating connection between science and the arts. Conference participants can use the discount code "DPG" to purchase tickets for € 8.00 in all price categories!
Take the opportunity to experience Dresden not only as a place of intensive scientific discussion, but also as a stage for exceptional musical and cinematic art. Both evenings offer a fascinating bridge between science, vision, and emotion – very much in the spirit of the curiosity that drives both physics and music.
